Issue Nº. 36 / Cabinetry, Joinery & Custom Interiors

Cabinetry,
made the old
& careful way.

Since 1989, Tamsa Kombuise has shaped the kitchens, built-ins, bars and bathrooms of homes across South Africa — drawn, factory-built and installed by a small team who treat every joint like it carries the family’s name.

Chapter 01 — The Workshop

Thirty-five years
in the same workshop,
still answering
our own phone.

Tamsa Kombuise was established in 1989 — and most of our clients still come from a quiet recommendation between friends or family. We focus on kitchen cupboards, built-in cupboards, bars and bathrooms, finished in duco, melamine, veneer, semi-solid, high-gloss and solid wood.

Every project is drawn in 3D so you see your space — every handle, every grain direction — before a single board is cut. The cabinetry is built at our factory in George with materials from suppliers we’ve used for decades, then carried, set and installed by the same small team. No subcontracted finishes. No surprises on the day.

Disciplines

Custom joinery,
room by room,
throughout the home.

Every Tamsa piece begins as a measurement and a conversation. From the kitchen island that holds a Sunday lunch to the dressing room that finally fits, we design and manufacture the cabinetry that quietly carries the rhythm of a house.

“Most of our work comes from clients recommending us to their friends and family — and that has been true since 1989.”

Chapter 04 — How It’s Made

The Process

From a sketch
on the kitchen table,
to your installation day.

Three measured chapters. No middlemen, no surprises. You speak to the same person from the first consult to the final handle — that’s the whole point.

i

Free Consultation

We come to you, measure the room, listen to how you live in it and quietly file every constraint — ovens, hosting habits, appliance dimensions, that awkward beam.

On site · 60-90 min No cost · no obligation
ii

3D Design & Revisions

You receive a full 3D rendering of your room — every cabinet, every finish, every line. Revise until it is exactly the room you imagined.

iii

Factory Build & Install

Built in our George workshop with premium South African and European materials, then carried, set and finished on site by the same team who drew it.

See your space in full
before we build a thing.

A Tamsa 3D render is not a quick sketch — it is the room you will receive, rendered to scale, lit, finished and walkable. You choose your finishes, move the island, swap the handles, rework the layout until it sits exactly right.

  • Full floor plan included with every quote
  • Choose your finishes in 3D — gloss, duco, oak, veneer

Chapter 05 — Voices

From our clients

Built on a referral,
repeated by another.

We do not advertise much. Most of our diary is filled by the friends, neighbours and family of the last client we worked for. These are some of the things they have said.

★★★★★

Tamsa Kombuise completely transformed our kitchen. The 3D design they showed us beforehand was exactly what we received — no surprises, just a beautiful result.

Zehnder Family

★★★★★

Professional, clean and incredibly skilled. They built our bar and kitchen and we could not be happier. The quality is outstanding and the installation was quick and tidy.

We have used Tamsa Kombuise twice now and recommended them to everyone we know. Honest, hands-on people — and the results speak for themselves every time.

Chapter 06 — The Standard

No compromise

We do not
compromise on quality —
it is the only rule we have.

  • i.

    Factory-built, not on site

Engineered in a climate-controlled workshop — the same cabinet, made indoors, lasts a generation longer.

    +
  • ii.

Premium South African & international suppliers

Boards, veneers and hardware sourced from suppliers we’ve worked with for decades — never the cheapest, but always the right ones.

    +
  • iii.

    Built to your exact dimensions

Cut to fit your room, your appliances and the way you actually live in it. No off-the-shelf modules pretending.

    +
  • iv.

    Clients are our first priority

Most of our business comes from referrals. That tells you everything you need to know.
